Full Metal Jacket - A Stanley Kubrick Movie

Full Metal Jacket (1987) is an Academy Award-nominated[1] Stanley Kubrick war film based on the novel The Short-Timers by Gustav Hasford. The title refers to the type of ammunition used by infantry riflemen. The film portrays the urban Vietnam War fought by the U.S. Marines. In 2005, Full Metal Jacket was placed #5 in Channel 4's The 100 Greatest War Films poll.

A group of new recruits in the United States Marine Corps has just arrived at Parris Island for indoctrination and basic training. Their drill instructor is Gunnery Sergeant Hartman (R. Lee Ermey), who wastes no time in starting the process of breaking the men down. The Vietnam War is in full swing, and his job is to produce trained killers who will not hesitate when the decisive moment arrives. The film's first section focuses on the physical and psychological treatment of recruit Leonard Lawrence (Vincent D'Onofrio), whom Hartman nicknames "Gomer Pyle." The second part of the film opens in Vietnam in January.

5 Survival Tips - Desert

Here are some survival techniques in a desert that I came across while reading a few articles. I felt it might provide some useful information to the adventure freaks.

1. Always carry a water bottle, knife and flint along with you. A water bottle or something that can hold water is a life saver especially in places where water is scarce and you will need it to store it up when you come across a source of water. A knife is always a useful tool when you are trying to survive in wilderness. A flint is an easy way to start a fire and a fire is what you need, not just to keep the animals away but also to lift your spirit when you are trying to spend a night in the wild.

2. Finding a river is the key to getting out. Following the river downstream can get you to civilization.

3. Look for a source of water. Plants need water and signs of vegetation could mean that there could be water nearby. Another tip is to listen to insects. Bees and mosquitos always live near water.

4. The biggest killer is heatstroke and dehydration and they both come on so quickly. Finding a canyon could be a life saver, as it will have shades, streams that lead to bigger rivers. When the temperature gets very hot, the first thing that you should do is find a shade as soon as possible. Just being in 110 F heat, the body loses a litre of water every hour. A cave is one good option of escaping the scorching sun but you have to be careful as other desert animals might have the same idea of using the cave to escape from the sun, especially snakes. Shady caves can literally be life savers. Take rest in the shade and move on at a cooler time of the day. When you are dehydrated, its important to drink slowly, as guzzling too much water too fast can make you vomit.

5. The longer the exposure to the full strength of the sun, the greater the danger and the most important part of the body to keep cool is the head and the brain. One tip is to cover your head with any cloth that you have which will prevent your head from being directly exposed to the heat. To give you an idea how dangerous the heat is, the body's internal temperature is usually 98.6 F and once the body's core temperature goes above 105 F, you got a heat stroke. When this happens, you become confused, your body goes into convulsions and you could fall into a coma

Freakiest PC Illusion I Have Ever Seen !!!!!

This is without a doubt one of the freakiest PC illusions I have seen so far.

Follow the instructions:

1. Relax and concentrate on the 4 small dots in the middle of the picture for about 30 - 40 secs. (Do NOT cut short the duration!)

2. Then, take a look at a wall near you (any smooth, single coloured surface)

3. You will see a circle of light developing

4. Now this is freaky !! Start blinking your eyes a couple of times and you will see a figure emerging...

5. What do you see? AND WHO DO YOU SEE?

Well, Here is the answer.

Copy this bold script below...

Then, login to your blogger account, go to Dashboard > Layout > Page Element > Add a Page Element and then choose HTML/Javascript page element. Paste the above script there, give a proper title, and then Save Changes

Simple isn't it?

So, what if I want to add more links?

Ok, If you want to add more links, just copy this script below, and add it just before </select> tag above.

A Day In The Life Of Heavy Water

Saturday morning, not a soul is awake, to hell with the big words spoken the previous night about meeting up at 9 (Yes, 9 in the morning !), the night seems to have just started for Heavy Water. With the drinking session going on till 4 the previous night, in the pretext of "discussion" about the music, it isn't much of a surprise that the sunlight managed to break through even before the dawn for the guys of Heavy Water.

10:30 in the morning, Bolin's landline rings. Well, his cellphone is as good as dead at this time on a Saturday morning. Naocha answers the phone and guess who was at the other end of the line! Yes, it was Megho, "Naocha, is Bolin still sleeping?" comes the prognosticating question. Bolin, by this time was expecting the call, plays an ancient trick of his, instructs Naocha to answer "Yes, he is in the bathroom !". Yeah..nicely done "Bols", that was a good one!

Early out of bed has never been a cup of tea for Abu anyday. And on a saturday morning after a good dose of "knockout drops", you must be kiddin ! But not today, as the cellphone rings under the pillow. "Hey what time are you reaching, its already 10:45?". "Ummm..I'm almost ready, will be there in another 15 minutes". Well, everybody knows that it meant 45 minutes and so did Megho.

11:45, Bolin, in his usual shorts and the blue Nike tee reaches Megho's place with his Iron Cobra, on his Ford Fusion, which looked like it had just won a cross country rally across the Mojave. Ok! One down one to go ! Not very long after that, Abu finally arrives at Megho's place in a state of sleep, barely managing to hold the guitar, the GT8 processor and the backpack. Great! So we have Abu, Bolin and of course Megho who has already plugged in his PRS but where is the vocalist and the bassist?

Head into the kitchen and you find Mocha and Amarzyt busy making their breakfast, trying to rush through as they hear the amplifiers being switched on.
12:15 and as usual, much beyond past the agreed time, everyone's finally set to start the jam session. Well "everyone", except Bolin, who seems to be taking forever to fix up his drum kit. Its a tough job to be a drummer, eh! Another 20 minutes of the saturday afternoon and we are all good to go at 12:35.

Things kicked off with a warm up round of Rock Bottom and then straight into the setlist for the next show. Much to the antipathy of the next door neighbours we continued to crank up the volume on the amplifiers. All seems to be going smooth, except for a few smoke in between songs. And during one such break, Bolin, on his way back from the loo, came out with something and guess what? Some left over booze from last night! And as though, this was the reason why the feel of the songs was missing and the right note was not hit, the bottle immediately became the center of attraction and received a great deal of attention from all, although the attention didn't last too long with five thirsty musicians around. Back to the music and we continued to excruciate the neighbours with the high voltage music.

2:30 and its lunch time! And it didn't take too long to finish that too.
After a smoke or two, we settled down to complete the remaining practice session without too many distractions.

6:00 and its pack up time! And somebody asked "What next?"

"...lets go get some booze....!!"

Metallica's Much Awaited Ninth Studio Album

On February 9, 2006, Lars Ulrich revealed that the band had begun writing material for their ninth album in an interview at the Sundance Festival: "We're having fun, writing, jamming and hanging. It's all good — no psychiatrists." The band confirmed they had chosen veteran music producer Rick Rubin to produce their ninth studio album. Lars on the upcoming album:“We're actually not recording right now. I know everybody, nowadays, it's like, if you're in the studio, everybody presumes you're recording or making a record, which, of course, we technically are. But the difference between this time and last time is that last time there was no real separation between the writing process and the recording process; it was one thing, and that was the whole kind of 'St. Anger' experiment — to do away with the separate processes of that, and nobody brought in any pre-recorded stuff or ideas; it was just make it up on the spot, be in the moment, put the fucking thing out and next time remember to put the snare on, all that stuff — we've covered that. So this time we are doing exactly what we did on all the other albums — first we're writing, then we're recording. The only difference is — and this is kind of where it gets a little gray area, next-level shit — is that we're writing where we record. So we're writing here at HQ because this is our home, our pad, our hood, our thing. On all the earlier albums... we wrote the 'black' album at my house and recorded it in L.A., we wrote the 'Justice' album at my house and recorded it in L.A., we wrote the 'Puppets' album at James' house and recorded it in Denmark, blah blah blah. But now we're writing in the studio. We show up here five days a week, we get together, we listen to some riff tape from Madrid or Glasgow or Peoria, Illinois, and we sit down and go, 'That riff' and 'That riff,' and then we spend the next six hours trying to remember how to write songs, and then we go pick our kids up and then we come back the next morning and do it all over again.[15]„ —Lars UlrichIn a recent interview on Bruce Dickinson’s BBC6 radio show, Lars Ulrich stated that Metallica has a goal of a September, 2008 release for the new album, and stated that the recording process was finalizing, with six weeks left.
